My Mum was the most amazing person I have come into contact with. She got married quite young and had three children (I am the youngest now at 42 years old) and she dedicated her younger years to our welfare. I still remember when she asked my Dad if she could get a job and my Dads answer was that if she did, she was not to contribute towards the household and its costs, Mums money was hers and hers alone. She was not particularly impressed with this as she wanted to assist so she used to sneak items of shopping into the house whilst my Dad wasn't around....
In later life she nursed my Dad who died in 1999 through Mesothelioma (Asbestos related lung cancer) and she only accepted very minimal help as she saw this as her duty (until death us do part still remained very important to mum). After my Dads passing mum remained single for a period of time before moving to Paignton with her recent Partner Derek. She was always known for being very smartly dressed (even whilst she was wearing her "scruffs" lol) and many used to comment of what colour her hair would be next, she had no intention of greying "gracefully lol". She started feeling unwell about 18 moths ago and was eventually diagnosed with MND on May 13th 2011 after many many tests proved inconclusive due to its very nature. She dealt with her illness with the upmost courage and always put others before herself. Her last few months were spent between Mount Olivet Nursing Home and The Rowcroft Hospice in Torquay where she fell asleep at 11:47am on the 31 January 2012. She will be immensely missed by all those that knew her, she had touched everyones heart (some of which met her only once, that was always enough for mum to gain peoples hearts) and she has left an enormous hole in the hearts of so many people. Mum, I love you with all that I am, I will miss you with all I will become and I am humbled and honoured to be called your son. Love you for ever and a day....Rob xxxx
